Patriotic – “Battle Hymn of the Republic”
June 20, 2009 By Save America
I’d like to thank an unnamed Patriot for forwarding us this clip. We respect his privacy, but not without mentioning his endless patriotic contributions an example of upholding free enterprise and supporting the needs of thousands. Kudos.
While you listen to this clip, the spirit of the words remain as alive today as when written by the great Ms. Julia Howe. Many great patriots have died by these words on our soil, and yet the intent of these great words can be applied well beyond our American shores . The spirit of freedom moves not only in America, yet today we see this desire and drive in the Iranian revolution. The desire for and pursuit of liberty is a key thread in both human and intellectual history. The revolution of the people in this country recognize their need for freedom from their tyrant government which causes this clash of civilization. It is the leaders which control, who distort the commonalities of the people that need to stand. The concept of liberty and desire of freedom has deep roots in all nations. It is a common thread amongst humanity which recognizes and honors all men are created equal, words for all of us to live by.
While “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” has buoyed Americans in conflict since it first appeared during the Civil War, it enjoins our American hero’s to “crush the serpent with his heel, and to “die to make men free”. It signals human willingness to retaliate against all forms of assault and oppression.
So let us all uphold this great privilege of freedom and honor what these men and women created before us. Let us all become great American warriors.
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.
He is trampling out the wine press, where the grapes of wrath are stored,
He hath loosed the fateful lightning’s of his terrible swift sword,
His truth is marching on.
I have seen him in the watch fires of an hundred circling camps
They have builded him an altar in the evening dews and damps,
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps,
His day is marching on.
I have read a burning Gospel writ in fiery rows of steel,
As ye deal with my condemners, so with you my grace shall deal,
Let the hero born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel,
Our God is marching on.
He has sounded out the trumpet that shall never call retreat,
He has waked the earth’s dull sorrow with a high ecstatic beat,
Oh! be swift my soul to answer him, be jubilant my feet!
Our God is marching on.
In the whiteness of the lilies he was born across the sea,
With a glory in his bosom that shines out on you and me,
As he died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
Our God is marching on.
He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
He is wisdom to the mighty, he is succor to the brave,
So the world shall be his footstool, and the soul of Time his slave,
Our God is marching on.
