Support Three Florida Pieces Of Legislation sign up as citizen co-sponsors
August 18,2009 By Cheryl Couture
Matt Hudson, Florida Representative of the 101st District (Collier east of I-75 to Dade County) gave an excellent presentation last night. Rep. Hudson encouraged us to stand up and fight back against this federal power-grab! He informed us about three important pieces of legislation currently in the Florida legislature that aim to protect our state and its citizens from inefficient and bureaucratic control.
The bills include:
House HM19 – This bill serves as a notice and a demand by the people of the state of Florida as expressed through their legislature to the Federal Government to cease and desist from going beyond the scope of issuing mandates beyond it’s constitutionally delegated powers. It also reasserts Florida’s sovereignty under the 10th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.
House HB21 – The Firearms Freedom Act seeks to provide “that specified firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition for personal use manufactured in the state are not subject to federal law or regulation” in the State of Florida.
House HJR 37 – The Health Care Freedom Act says any “law or rule shall not compel , directly or indirectly, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in any health care system, ” and specifies people and employers can’t be fined for not buying insurance. This bill does not ban federal programs such as Medicare and Medicaid in our state, it simply focuses on redistricting the federal government from forcing Americans to participate in an insurance policy, public or private.
Rep. Hudson explained that the 60 day session when these bills will be voted on is from the 1st Tues. in March to the 1st Fri. in May. He encouraged all Floridians to go to FLFreedom.org (there is a direct link on the right side of our website) to sign up as citizen co-sponsors. The House already has 47 co-sponsors and the list of citizen co-sponsors will help to encourage those FL legislators who are not on board.
Rep. Hudson was asked what can the citizens of Florida do to help these three pieces of legislation pass? Listed below are three action points:
1. Sign up to be a citizen co-sponsors at FLFreedom.org and tell every Floridian you know to do the same. Share the facebook page and use other social networks to inform the citizens of Florida.
2. Go to: myfloridahouse.gov to see which counties in Florida have a FL Rep.
that is not a House co-sponsor, send hand written letters and address the fact that 47 of their colleagues have signed on. If you have friends and family in these counties encourage them to write and call, constituents will have a bigger influence.
3. Go to: myfloridahouse.gov and sign up on the Legislative Tracker for the
House HM19, House HB21 and House HJR37. Once signed up you will be updated when these pieces of legislation are being heard in committee so you and all the Floridians on your list can flood the committee with emails and calls. Every committee meeting and floor session is Broadcast Live on the internet. When you are alerted that these pieces of legislation are being heard, download the agenda and watch.
Rep. Hudson reminded us that Florida is the fourth largest state so these pieces of legislation do have an impact.
