Last December on a sunny afternoon, a very dear friend from the windy city who recently passed away asked me, “have you heard about Valerie Jarrett?” He went on to comment, “well, you will”. Always prophetic in his way, he was right……..and more importantly had the right opinion.

Officially, Valerie B. Jarrett is the White House Senior Advisor and assistant to the President for intergovernmental affairs and public engagement. In reality, Jarrett is Obama’s intermediary to the outside world and his closest friend in the White House. Obama has commented, “Jarrett has served as my eyes and ears”.  This source went on the say there are two people Obama isn’t going to say no to, his wife and Jarrett.

Jarrett, was born of Africa-American parents in Iran. She earned her law degree from University of Michigan and was serving as Mayor Daley’s Deputy Chief Staff in 1991 when she befriended Michelle (Robinson) Obama. It was through Michelle she met Barack Obama. Jarrett and Obama became very close friends and she gave him guidance on the writings of his book, “Dreams of My Father”.

Jarrett went on to help Obama on his run for the US Senate in 2002 with fundraising efforts. She was again at Obama side in 2006 when he discussed a run for the White House with political strategist David Axelrod, who also served as an important advisor during and after the campaign. It was a few days after Obama won the Presidency he told Rahm Emanuel, “I want her inside the White House.”

What a lot of people don’t know, when Emanuel found out in December that Jarrett had been looking at office space in the White House, he wasn’t happy. Emanuel confronted Jarrett, yet today he says it was just a misunderstanding. Although no one is talking about the “power struggle” when Emanuel talks about Jarrett, it’s fair to say his words fall short of effusive.

Now inside the White House, Jarrett serves as Obama’s conduit to the business community as his champion for minority issues. When Obama was asked if he runs every decision past Jarrett, he answered without pause…..”absolutely”.

Beyond this, a friend of advisors Jarrett and Axelrod stated, that while Obama gets brilliant political advice from Axelrod, from Jarrett he gets wisdom.

Jarrett is a Daley trained politico with some questionable involvements. While she sat on the Board of Directors at the University of Chicago Medical Center, she had some involvement with Michelle Obama’s patient dumping schemes (previous post). Further, she’s had involvement in Grov Parc, the Chicago slum complex managed by Jarrett’s company, Habitat Inc. To this day, she still refuses to answer any questions about the dilapidated housing development for her championed cause, minorities. This and a series of real estate scandals including several housing projects operated by convicted felon and Obama fundraiser/friend Antoin “Tony” Rezko. As a part of Jarrett’s responsibilities in the White House, she oversees the White House Office of Urban Affairs, home of pay to play corruptocrate Urban Czar Aldolfo Carrion.

Key into this clip at about 7:40, and you’ll hear how Valerie Jarrett has been following Van Jones since Oakland. These Obama connections are not by chance, rather design. There are deep inroads to how this administration has been orchestrated. Both Obama and Jarrett are fans of the community organizing platforms with extended involvements more less strong commitments.  What many people don’t know, both Obama and Jarrett have ties to the Gamaliel Foundation in Chicago, a grassroots organization working to bring about social change. It models its tactics after those of Saul Alinsky, predicated on the notion America is a land of rife with injustice. The Gamaliel Foundation works for social change by supporting the efforts of a network of organizations whose goals are to allow for individuals to participate in the political environmental, social and economic areas. The Gamaliel Foundation also has a network of organizations. Do you see a common mindset here in ideologies of this administration and the recurring themes of affiliates? One of the Gamaliel Foundation champion causes is civil rights for immigrants. They are a sponsoring organization of the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride Coalition. This seeks to secure rights and civil liberties protections for illegal immigrants, policy reforms that diminish or eliminate restrictions on immigration. Does this bring some pause to Health care reform or the current census redistricting?

Obama’s specific involvements are as a former community organizer. He incorporated the Developing Communities Project while developing the leadership structure for this organization. When Obama left to attend Harvard Law School, he made sure John McKnight a professor at Northwestern University in Evanston, Il. had involvement to oversee the staff and what he had put in place. John McKnight is also a Gamaliel Board Member.

Valerie Jarrett went on to continue the support by reaching out to community organizers at a roundtable event in Washington held at the Washington Hilton on December 4, 2008. “Realizing the Promise”, a forum designed to give the transition team input on solutions from the organizing communities. This was sponsored by the Gamaliel Foundation and the Center for Community Change. They were serious about directing and re- shaping policy in this country.

We can count on you to advise us,” said Jarrett. “You know better than anybody else what your community needs in order to improve your neighborhood.” The Gamaliel Foundation is also pushing hard for The Employees Free Choice Act.

The recurring question is one that Obama posed early in his game,  This President said to judge him by the people he surrounds himself. …
