The Road Back, a Period of Reflection

July 22, 2010 By Save America

How many of you are asking yourself right about now if  Barack Obama is the best thing that has happened to America lately? Is he the Messiah as many had hoped?

President Obama made history when he became the first African American elected to the nation’s top office with 53% of the vote, or nearly 67 million voters. Early on in his presidency he enjoyed a 70% approval rating, that number has now fallen.

Despite the poll numbers which are the lowest approval ratings among recent Presidents, perhaps history will be kind and reflect Obama as the catalyst of America’s swing back to greatness. He has pushed the country into levels of debt which none of us could have ever imagined, he’s nationalized health care regardless of fierce resistance nationwide, unemployment is unacceptably high and is slated to remain this way for the next decade, TARP bailouts and stimulus spending have shown little effect on our national economy, he’s pushed unprecedented entitlement programs which are at unsustainable levels,  he’s been hell bent on sound bites to create a racial divide, he’s offered up a self-serving agenda about immigration reform, he’s displayed a deliberate delay of handling the gulf oil spill, and now with the passing of the Financial Reform Bill we have taken further steps toward the abyss. This last passage is not about regulation, this is state sponsorship, this is pure statism. This is a disaster, and the disaster will be clear in the weeks and months ahead as we watch the lock come down on the American money as the regulators take over.

We are watching the slow boil of seething anger in the populace. The simple fact is that there is a lot of anger and frustration out there aimed squarely at Washington, and with good reason. So has Barack Obama been a good thing for America?

First Lady Michelle Obama added to the agenda this week riling up the convention crowd with her idea of black vs. white America while speaking to the NAACP’s National Convention in Kansas City. She advanced the idea of two Americas: “When African American communities are still hit harder than just about anywhere by this economic downturn, and so many families are just barely scraping by, I think the founders would tell us that now is not the time to rest on our laurels. When stubborn inequalities still persist — in education and health, in income and wealth — I think those founders would urge us to increase our intensity, and to increase our discipline and our focus and keep fighting for a better future for our children and our grandchildren.”

“We are living today in a time where we’re decades beyond slavery, we are decades beyond Jim Crow; when one of the greatest risks to our children’s future is their own health. African American children are significantly more likely to be obese than are white children. Nearly half of African American children will develop diabetes at some point in their lives. People, that’s half of our children.”

Further, why would the Department of Justice side with the New Black Panthers against voters who just want to exercise their right to vote?

Average Americans who have quietly gone about their lives, working, enjoying their families, spending weekends doing what they like best, have now gotten off the fence. They’ve definitely awoken, there is a level of political activism now so beyond what we’ve seen in the past.  Barack Obama has been the catalyst who has sparked the consciousness, he’s ripped the lid off a seething cauldron of dissatisfaction on unrest.

Slowly we’ve learned to tolerate unjust policies as we went on with our lives. Over the last fifty years liberalism has sought to restructure America which was the symbol of freedom and liberty to all people of the world. Our welfare policies has encouraged irresponsibility, the fracturing of families and a cycle of dependency. Debt was regarded as the excelsior to lubricate the economy. Legislators believe Americans cannot be trusted to defend their own homes and continually attack second amendment rights to own firearms.  Our children have been taught they are exceptional while many cannot perform basic functions of mathematics and literacy.

And now, America has former communists in paid government positions in the White House who advised our President daily. Terrorists are read their Miranda rights and given free lawyers. Auto companies are taken over and the auto workers union whose contracts make no economic sense is rewarded with a stake in the company. Government bails out the investment bankers and insurance companies who pay their executives outrageous bonuses.  One year ago Lehman Brothers was allowed to fail and then the world economy collapsed. Government regulators missed all of the obvious warning signs, as bankers over-leveraged their companies and were richly paid in return. This forced the government to pump billions of taxpayer dollars into the financial industry. And the coup de grais, Barack Obama pushed a health care plan that will restructure one-sixth of our economy.

But it is “the economy stupid.” Deficits from growing health care costs, government stimulus packages, bank and auto bailouts, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are adding trillions to the national debt. Why do we still have troops based all over the world? Why do we still pay out so much in foreign aid? Huge deficits are likely to lead to serious inflation and higher taxes. They are being underwritten by China and Japan, and threaten to severely weaken America globally. Our children and grandchildren will be left with a legacy of debt and serious problems.

And, what is Obama busily working on today, a new bill, called the Cruise Line Vessel Security and Safety Act of 2009 … Cruise ship safety is now the concern of Congress and President Obama. requiring the cruise industry to comply with many new regulations, yep, higher railings, video surveillance systems, cabin door peep holes, etc. Does anyone else see this as  priorities skewed? I thought so……..

You either believe in a Constitutionally limited government, a free market and individual rights or you don’t. It’s ok if you don’t…this is still America, we have choices. But, don’t play some silly game believing there is some kind of intelligent compromise.  Literally millions of Americans have had enough. They’re organizing, they are studying the Constitution and the Federalist papers. They’re showing up at rallies and meetings, and a ton of conservative candidates are jumping into the race.  There is a keen awareness that our priorities and sensibilities must be radically restructured. Americans are moving to a period of reflection. Just as the pendulum swung to embrace “political correctness” there will be a backlash….a repudiation of the liberal nonsense. Politicians are too focused on scoring short term political points and securing corporate donations for their campaign. This is the most serious political problem facing our nation today, and there is no incentive or willingness to change the status quo. No wonder everyone is so angry.

As a defender of free markets, individual rights and limited government…….. will history perceive November of 2010 as the time when America got back of the right footing? As many have previously stated, maybe we should thank Barack Hussein Obama.
