Americans are beginning to catch on…… Obama and his administration are all about distraction and deflection, so don’t think with the ongoing census there isn’t a correlation between being counted and gaining citizenship. This Marxist driven administration is spending millions of dollars of our tax money to get the illegal’s to come out of the woodwork and be counted and they will be pulling out all stops to make sure this President achieves re-election with the help of the Census, Illegal Immigration, ACORN, etc.

We as Americans need to be on high alert during the 2010 and 2012 elections. The White House has discussed prospects of reviving and initiating a major overhaul of the nation’s immigration laws. Obama is taking up this issue of advancing a bill through Congress before lawmakers become too distracted with the midterm elections.

Democrat Charles Schumer of New York and Republican Lindsey Graham of South Carolina are working vigilantly outlining ways to resuscitate this effort and have spent months trying to craft a bill. The basis of this bill has hopes to advance citizenship for millions of people living in the United States illegally. These Washington insiders will look for ways to spotlight this issue while building  momentum with immigration rallies, one which is set for March 21^st.  Just ask yourself, realistically how many of these newly legal aliens wouldn’t vote for someone who helped craft and institute the best gift possible, American Citizenship?

Obama promised to revamp immigration in his first year of office and risks angering the Latino constituency if he defers until 2011. There is a consensus that a proposal must be moved by April or early May to have a realistic chance of passing this year.

One very inconvenient truth that both the Democrats and Republicans did not mention at their meeting on health care was the impact and cost of providing health care for over thirty million illegal aliens living and working in the United States of America. Nearly every month at least one hospital is closing their doors because they can no longer afford providing medical care to these millions of illegal aliens. Along with nearly 30 million Americans seeking employment the American people want the illegals to just go home or face deportation. Americans want and need jobs, of which many are being performed by illegals.  This is a political scandal that both parties are responsible for…open borders which result in this problem.  This administration now want the illegal alien votes once amnesty is granted to them under comprehensive immigration reform and a pathway to citizenship.

The result is the forgotten American people. The low skilled American worker of all races have been sacrificed so the progressive, radical, socialist could achieve their political objectives. The political elites found in both parties have turned their backs on the American people.  The day of reckoning is approaching…..Americans will choose liberty and life.

Romneycare Model a Dud

So this is what it looks like when a mild-mannered, liberal community activist goes “nuclear.”
President Barack Obama didn’t use the “n” word – or even the “r” word, “reconciliation.” But he made it clear he’s ready to go to Democrat DefCon4, give the partisan launch codes and inflict Obamacare on the American people at any political cost.
In defending his decision to go nuclear, Obama talked about insurance company “abuses.” He talked about premium hikes in California. He talked about a sick mom in Wisconsin. He even talked (in extremely modest ways) about Republican ideas like tort reform and fighting Medicare fraud.
What Obama didn’t mention was Massachusetts.
In fact, despite having given (based on my calculations) some 57,432 speeches, press conferences, pep talks, pillow talks and interpretive dances on health care in the past 12 months, Obama somehow manages to leave us out of nearly every conversation.
This is telling, because we’re the one state already glowing in the radioactive haze of Romneycare, aka “ObamaCare: The Beta Version.”
Shouldn’t Obama have been bragging yesterday about bringing the benefits of Bay State reform to all of America?
As we prepare to wander into this coming nuclear winter of hyper-partisan politics – one in which we’re almost certain to see widespread political fatalities among congressional Democrats – I have to ask: If bringing Massachusetts-style “universal coverage” to America is worth this terrible price, why doesn’t Obama at least mention us once in awhile?
Maybe he thinks of us as the Manhattan Project of medical insurance reform. Too top secret to discuss. More likely, it has something to do with the nightmare results of this government-run debacle. Here are a few “highlights” of the current status of the Obamacare experiment in Massachusetts:
It’s exploding the budget: Our “universal” health insurance scheme is already $47 million over budget for 2010. Romney care will cost taxpayers more than $900 million next year alone.
It’s killing us on costs: Average Massachusetts premiums are the highest in the nation and rising. We also spend 27 percent more on health care services, per capita, than the national average. Those costs, contrary to what we were promised, have been going up faster here than nearly everywhere else.
It’s creating bizarre marketplace mutations: In Massachusetts, ObamaCare 1.0 is such a mess our governor is talking about imposing draconian price controls. He’s even suggested going to “capitation,” a system where doctors get a fixed amount of money per patient – and then that’s it. Which means it would become in your doctor’s financial interest never to see you again.
All this damage to the taxpayers, the insured and the responsible business owners . . . and for what?
The percentage of uninsured Bay State residents has gone from around 6 percent to around 3 percent.
In other words, it’s a dud.
And now Obama is preparing to drop the Big One on bipartisanship and turn Congress into a political hot zone for the remainder of his presidency, in order to pass a similar plan.
Is it political suicide or just political stupidity? Or is it, as many Obamacare supporters hope, the beginning of a devastating assault on the private sector?
The damage Obamacare would do to the current health care system – where 85 percent of Americans are happy with their health care, by the way – could be so great, the only institution big enough to repair it would be the government. The fact that the government inflicted that damage would be a moot point.

Obama’s leftist fantasy world makes no common sense to many of us. But, if you understand just what Marxism is and how it works, it is all very understandable. Sarah Palin has it dead on…it is evil.

What seems nutty to people who are not indoctrinated to Marxism and not dedicated to its eventual socialist society, makes absolute sense to Marxists. In their mind, when things go bad in a capitalist society like a recession leading to a depression…that’s great. “For things to get better, first they must get worse” qualifies as a Marxist slogan.

The people in the Obama cabinet expect us to believe that an administration filled with Marxist influence and radical ideologies does not reflect the President. We are supposed to believe that ideologues who distain our American way can improve the system which has offered more prosperity and well-being than any other nation.

People are now beginning to realize America is under attack. Obama’s popularity has slipped considerably, yet how much do they realize just how engrained this attack is to certain segments of our society? The Obama agenda isn’t about saving the American economy rather about putting “big brother” in control of our lives. It’s about a Nanny State, government intrusion into every aspect of our lives under the pretense of “protecting” us. It’s about destroying capitalism and tearing down our economy in order to build a new economic system based on rewarding certain Americans, social justice…those who support Obama and his agenda.

Think long and hard about what caused this  economic tsunami: too much government spending, too many handouts, wasted spending, too many government employees with increased salaries, pensions and health benefits, too much deficit, too much debt. Just an enormous amount of blank check government promises all paid for by the taxpayers.

And to be fair what are Obama’s solutions? He proposes more spending to get us out of bankruptcy.  Obama offers billions of dollars to state and local governments which will virtually guarantee they’ll do it again.  He suggests more regulations which helped to create this current crisis.

His economic stimulus plans are about buying votes . It’s about giving away billions to state and local governments to lock up votes of government employees and union members for a generation to come.  It’s about handing out tens of billions of dollars to a failing education system and rewarding a teachers union. Why reward a system of consistently lower test scores and higher dropout rates? These same employees will not only keep their jobs but get pay raises while the private sector struggles to survive. This is about buying millions of votes.

He gave away billions of dollars to failing auto companies which rewarded auto unions. The same workers who earn robust annual salaries, pensions and benefits for cars that have become so overpriced  and unpopular no one wants to buy them. And if you’re not a Union member, Obama wants to pass legislation that bans a secret ballot which will ensure every worker will become a union member.  It’s the same with unionizing the healthcare workers and rewarding SEIU, Andy Stern.

Obama is about government takeover. He’s shown this with the banking debacle. This is all about control of who gets a loan, which hasn’t been the private sector and small business. This is about government intrusion and bureaucratic control in directing the banks money to politically correct projects……the ones where Obama’s friends will profit . Time and again this administration has given unions privileges denied to other Americans. This is of no surprise, Organized Labor spent hundreds of millions of dollars electing President Obama and the current Congress. Now the President has given them a healthy return on their investment. Isn’t that the way Obama’s Washington works? Obama promised to change politics as usual, he’s delivered on this promise.

As we reported earlier, at the beginning of this New Year Mr. Obama decided to set up a “Council of Governors” (CG), much like the 30 plus czars he has running America without the American people, the Legislative branch or the congressional branches stamp of approval.

Done quietly, America is being remade…….. As we’ve all so blatantly seen since Obama’s campaign officially ended and immediately after the inauguration, the promised transparency has faded into nothing. This is yet another order executed without any announcement or explanation to the public.

Obama’s Council of Governors is taking its shape as reported by the Associated Press. Obama has selected Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon to serve on an advisory board for defense and national security. His is also one of the ten who was named by Obama to the (CG).  As liberty loving Americans we should all show some serious concern to this overreaching arm of more Federal Government.

With the stroke of his pen, Obama has increased the efforts to  federalize the states.  Here is the list of the Council of Governors:

REGION 1 – Governor Douglas – Vermont  (He seems to support many of the left leaning goals such as climate change, health care reforms, government mandates and collectivism)

REGION 2 – Governor Fontuno – Puerto Rico  (A former Republican turned member of the New Progressive Party)

REGION 3 – Governor O’Malley- Maryland (Limited information appears to show O’Malley as a pro-government, pro-green Democrat)

REGION 3 – Governor McDonnell – Virginia (A Republican and former military man, Gov. McDonnell is strongly pro-gun, pro-life, pro-Christian and pro-business)

REGION 4 – Governor Perdue – North Carolina (A supposed moderate, and pro-ACLU Democrat, Lawyers appear to favor her, contributing large amounts to her campaign)

REGION 5 – President Obama – Illinois

REGION 6  – Governor Henry – Oklahoma (he is a strong believer in government spending as a way to address problems.)

REGION 7 – Governor Nixon – Missouri (Pro-ACORN, Pro-UN, pro-tax Democrat)

REGION 8 – Governor Rounds – South Dakota (tows the Republican agenda line fairy consistently)

President Richard Nixon issued Executive Order #11647 on February 10, 1972 which divided the United States into ten “standard Federal regions”. Go here for, the map here.

What many Americans don’t know, the Posse Comitatus Act was effectively annulled by the 2006 John Warner National Defense Act. What this means is, the President has the power to declare martial law under the revisions to the Insurrection Act and take charge of the United States National Guard troops with state governor authorization. While the Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security will also sit on this council, the U.S. Northern Command Commander, the Commander of the East Coast Guard along with the Chief of the National Guard Bureau are also included.

This regional system is a military structure. It grants federal executive power to these ten governors with the responsibility of giving direction to the National Guard and all related homeland military activities. Also, each federal agency (EPA, OSHA, DOT AND FEMA) already has divided into these same ten regions, here is the official district map for FEMA.

Wondering what the criteria for selection of these governors was…..quite possibly a compliant attitude. Governor Jay Nixon authorized and defended the Missouri State Police Report which was distributed to all Missouri State law enforcement officers last year which listed Ron Paul as being a potentially dangerous militia member or terrorist.  This report (MIAC) targeted the people who opposed: The New World Order, Gun Control, The Federal Reserve, Abortion of Demand, Illegal Immigrations and a few others. Possibly Nixon’s support of this report pleased the Marxist agenda of Obama.

Do we really need a handful of State Governors collaborating with Washington on potential emergencies? States, under the constitution, are sovereign and the “council of governors” edges very close to the line, and most likely crosses it, as to what would be considered constitutional. Seems the Obama administration is continuing to conduct the potentially “unconstitutional” business of America in close door meetings in the dark of the night.

10 Steps To Destroying American Society

1.      Rewrite the Constitution and break down its firewalls through Judicial and Bureaucratic fiat.

2.      Concentrate all meaningful power in the Federal Government.

3.      Suppress and Repress the Individual by attacking his Unalienable Rights through laws and constant torment.

4.      Eliminate Private Property through Confiscatory Taxation and Regulation and wage constant war against Business Enterprises and Entrepreneurs.

For those of you who didn’t catch Fox’s coverage last night of Sarah Palin’s speech at the Nashville National Tea Party Convention, she launched a full-throttle assault on the leadership of Obama. Palin declared the U.S. needed a commander-in-chief and “not a professor of law standing at the lectern”.  I applaud her for her constraint, Obama has consistently and falsely claimed he is a Constitutional law professor at the University of Chicago….not, try a senior lecturer at the school. I thought all academia’s knew there is a vast difference between the two titles. So, as a ‘Constitutional law instructor’ Obama the scholar (who thinks the Constitution is a flawed document) should have gotten it correct when he stated during his State of the Union address, “We find unity in our incredible diversity, drawing on the promise enshrined in our Constitution: the notion that we are all created equal…..”. He got his documents confused, doesn’t say much for his grasp of the Constitution……this is from the Declaration of Independence. I digress, Palin went on to blast Obama on his foreign policy reaching out to U.S. enemies and to quote Ronald Reagan, “rein in the spending”.

Sarah Palin embraces the Tea Party philosophy and if our future ‘elected’ representatives have hopes of holding office they’d better jump on board with her sentiment, “It’s a beautiful movement because it’s shaping politics”.  She went on to say, “We don’t have all the answers as fallible men and women so it would be wise for us to start seeking some divine intervention again in this country, so that we can be safe and secure and prosperous again”.  Oh my, the progressives are holding their chests at this point.

The media will criticize the Tea Party Convention and ruthlessly pick out all the un-PC moments and messages from speakers….(I’ve already received emails highlighting talking points from our local progressive), and they will consequently deepen their misunderstanding and ignorance to right and center by doing so. For we all know the Tea Party is NOT the opposition movement, yet a gathering of like-minded conservatives who want our Government to abide by the Constitution. Included in Sarah Palin’s convention address, “When the work of Washington violates our Constitution, then we will stand up and we will be counted”. “Only limited government can expand prosperity and opportunity for all. Freedom is a God-given right that’s worth fighting for.”

Half of this country’s population doesn’t vote and there is a tendency for the political elite to dismiss those who are not politically active, they don’t vote so they don’t count. Well, get ready because they are about to come out in droves.  Many of them are averse to government matters, they’d rather be left alone and do their thing without having to be concerned about politics, politicians and bureaucracy. They now are awakened. Americans trusted the American system to keep politicians under control so they don’t do anything adverse to our well being, but with Obama’s limitless appearances, speeches and policy initiatives combined with the medias love affair covering him 24/7, many Americans been stirred from apathetic disgust to paying attention and getting involved. A large portion of our society is beginning see just how convoluted our political system has become. Gone are the days of people voting out of superficial partisan distinctions and family tradition rather than informed interest.

If the political class of 2010 has any savvy, they’ll begin their trek down this learning curve and attempt to understand this movement. The controlled sheep is a changing paradigm under the umbrella of “tea-baggers” who have awaken and gotten involved. Our Federal Government has become a ‘National Government’ which is what our Founding Fathers warned against, it has become so powerful it has infiltrated the private sector in intrusive ways which cannot be ignored.

The last thing our ‘elected representatives’ should do is dismiss, smear or attempt to suppress this movement. These voters are likened to homeowners who entrusted their property to caretakers only to learn they’ve been looted, their valuables hocked and their property turned into grow houses.

This is so much more than a convention in Nashville. Washington DC is up for a mighty shakedown. America is about to be restored.

I am a student of history. Professionally, I have written 15 books on history that have been published in six languages, and I have studied history all my life. I have come to think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is simply a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus.

Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it.. Yes, a perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our country that has been evolving for about ten to fifteen years. The pace has dramatically quickened in the past two.

We demand and then codify into law the requirement that our banks make massive loans to people we know they can never pay back? Why?

We learned just days ago that the Federal Reserve, which has little or no real oversight by anyone, has “loaned” two trillion dollars (that is $2,000,000,000,000) over the past few months, but will not tell us to whom or why or disclose the terms. That is our money. Yours and mine. And that is three times the $700 billion we all argued about so strenuously just this past September. Who has this money? Why do they have it? Why are the terms unavailable to us? Who asked for it? Who authorized it? I thought this was a government of “we the people,” who loaned our powers to our elected leaders. Apparently not.

We have spent two or more decades intentionally de-industrializing our economy. Why?

We have intentionally dumbed down our schools, ignored our history, and no longer teach our founding documents, why we are exceptional, and why we are worth preserving. Students by and large cannot write, think critically, read, or articulate. Parents are not revolting, teachers are not picketing, school boards continue to back mediocrity. Why?

We have now established the precedent of protesting every close election (violently in California over a proposition that is so controversial that it simply wants marriage to remain defined as between one man and one woman. Did you ever think such a thing possible just a decade ago?) We have corrupted our sacred political process by allowing unelected judges to write laws that radically change our way of life, and then mainstream Marxist groups like ACORN and others to turn our voting system into a banana republic. To what purpose?

Now our mortgage industry is collapsing, housing prices are in free fall, major industries are failing, our banking system is on the verge of collapse, social security is nearly bankrupt, as is medicare and our entire government. Our education system is worse than a joke (I teach college and I know precisely what I am talking about) – the list is staggering in its length, breadth, and depth.. It is potentially 1929 x  ten…And we are at war with an enemy we cannot even name for fear of offending people of the same religion, who, in turn, cannot wait to slit the throats of your children if they have the opportunity to do so.

And finally, we have elected a man that no one really knows anything about, who has never run so much as a Dairy Queen, let alone a town as big as Wasilla , Alaska . All of his associations and alliances are with real radicals in their chosen fields of employment, and everything we learn about him, drip by drip, is unsettling if not downright scary (Surely you have heard him speak about his idea to create and fund a mandatory civilian defense force stronger than our military for use inside our borders? No? Oh, of course. The media would never play that for you over and over and then demand he answer it. Sarah Palin’s pregnant daughter and $150,000 wardrobe are more important.)

Mr. Obama’s winning platform can be boiled down to one word: Change. Why?

I have never been so afraid for my country and for my children as I am now.

This man campaigned on bringing people together, something he has never, ever done in his professional life. In my assessment, Obama will divide us along philosophical lines, push us apart, and then try to realign the pieces into a new and different power structure. Change is indeed coming. And when it comes, you will never see the same nation again.

And that is only the beginning..

As a serious student of history,  I thought I would never come to experience what the ordinary, moral German must have felt in the mid-1930s In those times, the “savior” was a former smooth-talking rabble-rouser from the streets, about whom the average German knew next to nothing. What they should have known was that he was associated with groups that shouted, shoved, and pushed around people with whom they disagreed; he edged his way onto the political stage through great oratory. Conservative “losers” read it right now.

And there were the promises. Economic times were tough, people were losing jobs, and he was a great speaker. And he smiled and frowned and waved a lot. And people, even newspapers, were afraid to speak out for fear that his “brown shirts” would bully and beat them into submission. Which they did – regularly. And then, he was duly elected to office, while a full-throttled economic crisis bloomed at hand – the Great Depression.. Slowly, but surely he seized the controls of government power, person by person, department by department, bureaucracy by bureaucracy.. The children of German citizens were at first, encouraged to join a Youth Movement in his name where they were taught exactly what to think. Later, they were required to do so. No Jews of course,

How did he get people on his side? He did it by promising jobs to the jobless, money to the money-less, and rewards for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the children, advocating gun control, health care for all, better wages, better jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country, across Europe , and across the world. He did it with a compliant media – did you know that? And he did this all in the name of justice and …. . .. change. And the people surely got what they voted for.

If you think I am exaggerating, look it up. It’s all there in the history books.

So read your history books. Many people of conscience objected in 1933 and were shouted down, called names, laughed at, and ridiculed. When Winston Churchill pointed out the obvious in the late 1930s while seated in the House of Lords in England (he was not yet Prime Minister), he was booed into his seat and called a crazy troublemaker. He was right, though. And the world came to regret that he was not listened to.

Do not forget that Germany was the most educated, the most cultured country in Europe . It was full of music, art, museums, hospitals, laboratories, and universities. And yet, in less than six years (a shorter time span than just two terms of the U. S. presidency) it was rounding up its own citizens, killing others, abrogating its laws, turning children against parents, and neighbors against neighbors.. All with the best of intentions, of course. The road to Hell is paved with them.

As a practical thinker, one not overly prone to emotional decisions, I have a choice: I can either believe what the objective pieces of evidence tell me (even if they make me cringe with disgust); I can believe what history is shouting to me from across the chasm of seven decades; or I can hope I am wrong by closing my eyes, having another latte, and ignoring what is transpiring around me..

I choose to believe the evidence. No doubt some people will scoff at me, others laugh, or think I am foolish, naive, or both. To some degree, perhaps I am. But I have never been afraid to look people in the eye and tell them exactly what I believe-and why I believe it.

I pray I am wrong. I do not think I am. Perhaps the only hope is our vote in the next elections.

David Kaiser is a respected historian whose published works have covered a broad range of topics, from European Warfare to American League Baseball. Born in 1947, the son of a diplomat, Kaiser spent his childhood in three capital cities: Washington D.C. , Albany , New York , and Dakar , Senegal .. He attended Harvard University , graduating there in 1969 with a B.A. in history. He then spent several years more at Harvard, gaining a PhD in history, which he obtained in 1976. He served in the Army Reserve from 1970 to 1976.

Funny, if any of our driver license were taken from us due to a traffic violation, we couldn’t drive anymore. So, wouldn’t you think since funds were taken from ACORN due to infractions and VIOLATIONS, shouldn’t there be a moratorium against them receiving additional funds from our taxpaying dollars until they have cleared up their questionable assistance in voter fraud, funding prostitution, trafficking, etc.?

It seems our Government enforces laws of justice with bias. Thanks to the Obama  administration and a very liberal judge,  ACORN could be eligible to receive up to $3.99 billion in federal funding which is included in the massive $3.83 trillion 2011 budget released by Obama. This funding comes from a congressional slush fund, The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) which is part of the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) $48.5 billion 2011 budget. The Community Development Block Grants are awarded to states and localities and in turn are distributed to ACORN and other various group which compete at the state levels for grants.

So we ask, how is it that ACORN is eligible to receive additional federal funding when Congress imposed a ban on funding this organization several months back when it was exposed for assisting two filmmakers who posed as a pimp and prostitute and videotaped themselves asking for assistance at ACORN offices?             The filmmakers then released a hidden-camera tape which shows ACORN workers trying to help the pimp and prostitute. Two ACORN employees were fired in relation to the incident . The inmates are definitely running the asylum. A study by the non-partisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) found that ACORN properly used all federal dollars it received in the past five years. That report is so bogus and an insult to anyone who ever paid a tax. There should be a way to obtain the information Congress used to write this screenplay. Reports like these do not give anyone the incentive to demonstrate honest, fair business practices. It actually discourages one to drive for success. Democrats are so generous with everyone’s money. What promise or kick-back do the democrats receive from ACORN?  Further, In a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, Senator David Vitter argues that ACORN’s alleged misdeeds warrant a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) investigation into its business practices. “The recent reports and video footage of ACORN workers from various cities and states giving ‘how-to’ instructions on carrying out crimes, ranging from violating numerous immigration laws to tax fraud, warrants an immediate RICO investigation into ACORN,” Vitter said in his letter.

It seems Federal Judge Nina Gershon restored federal funding to ACORN by issuing a temporary injunction against the congressional funding ban. Judge Gershon is a Bill Clinton appointee who believes to deprive ACORN of our taxpayer dollars is unconstitutional. Her ruling could be permanent when this case goes to trial. Congress has voted to strip ACORN of federal funding in the past,  but the CRS indicated that courts “may have sufficient basis” to rule that unconstitutional. The Constitution bans “bills of attainder,” laws that specifically target one group or person.

Yes, liberal Judge Gershon is one in the same who ruled in 1999, New York Mayor, Rudy Giuliani had no right to stop city funding of the Brooklyn Museum of Art when it exhibited the Virgin Mary decorated with elephant dung.

What’s good for us isn’t the same set of rules for OBAMACORN.

We’ve come so far so fast in one year…….who could have anticipated this next move? As described in this Bloomberg article,  our illustrious Department of Treasury is now officially looking into avenues to force a portion of every 401K/ IRA Account, into “fixed payment annuities” which has been described as, “most of the money being channeled into long-term Treasury bonds”.

They are trying to sell this one as “retirement security”, however it would also constitute a de facto seizure of private assets in order to fund our Government’s deficits with anticipated ridiculous low rates of return, all inspired by what Pelosi observed in Argentina. What is even more amazing is this was opened to public comment through publication in the Federal Register and the Treasury Department is indicating this next maneuver can be done through administrative fiat rather than an act of Congress.

Make no mistake, this is unraveling into yet another unprecedented money power grab for the Federal Government, regardless of it being a small fraction of your 401K. This will affect every working or retired American. Another patently unconstitutional move……Wait till the next market tumble, the nanny state will step in and impose the overreaching Marxist arm to protect us all from the vicissitudes of an evil stock market on Wall Street.

I do not speak for all the victims of 9/11 but I can speak for one. I know if my nephew Tommy were alive today, he would be sickened by the cowardice exhibited by our elected officials who are supposed to be fighting to protect us instead of emboldening our enemies, crippling our defenses, weakening our justice system and inviting further attacks to our homeland.

On September 11th, 2001, I was the deputy assistant to the president for appointments and scheduling — essentially the president’s gate keeper. It was a beautiful September morning in Washington, D.C. I arrived at my West Wing office at the usual time, 6:15 am and prepared for the 7:30 a.m. senior staff meeting in the Roosevelt Room. The president and chief of staff Andy Card were in Florida. Other than the vice president, Josh Bolten, the deputy chief to the president was the highest ranking official at the White House.

After the senior staff meeting, I went back to my office on the first floor of the West Wing and began my normal routine. As was my habit, I constantly had a news station playing on my office TV. I always kept volume on low — even during meetings — so I could immediately respond to news as it was happening.

As I was doing my work, I heard reports about a commuter plane that had struck one the towers of the World Trade Center. The story immediately grabbed my attention for several obvious and not so obvious reasons. First, it was the oddity of the accident. I am from New York State and at the time, my brother was a Commissioner for the Port Authority of NY/NJ which owns the World Trade Center Towers. Needless to say, I was glued to the coverage, and I like millions of others, I witnessed – on live television — the second plane striking the other Trade Center Tower.

I knew instantly that America was under attack and said so to my assistant. I immediately went into the Situation Room and heard and saw Josh Bolten swing into action. The West Wing staff met in the White House Mess, (a staff dining room) and we were given instructions on evacuation. As soon as the briefing was over I evacuated the White House. I went to an off-site location with about 100+ staffers. I was the highest ranking staffer at that location. We all got right to work.

We wanted to know what other presidents had done after the Marine Barracks bombing in Lebanon, the bombing of the Murrow Federal Building in Oklahoma, the first World Trade Center bombing, etc.

We wanted to compile a detailed look at how the press had reported on the event during the two week period afterwards. When did the president address the nation? With whom he meet? How did his schedule change?

During the time I was leading the staff from the off-site location, my brother and sister were also calling me. My nephew Tommy Jurgens, was a senior court officer and combat-trained army medic who reportedly had left his court house to respond to the attack and was missing. As it turned out, my nephew lost his life saving others. He disregarded orders from his superiors to leave the building and went back in to rescue others.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., I released the majority of the staff from my location. Then I returned, along with a few others, to the White House to join other senior staff members for a meeting in the Roosevelt Room. We prepared for the president’s return to the White House and his address from the Oval Office that night.

We threw out the president’s planned schedule for the next two weeks and scheduled meetings and appearances as events warranted. I got home that night at midnight and returned to work on 9/12 at 6 a.m.

I was never more proud of my country and those who serve as I was and continue to be during this time. Everyone swung into action and went to work unselfishly with a primary focus to do whatever was necessary to be helpful.

Two days after 9/11, I told Andy Card that my nephew was missing and that I might want to return to New York over the weekend. He asked me if I had told the president and I said I did not.

He told me to do whatever I needed to do. Within five minutes of telling Secretary Card that my nephew was missing the president called me on the phone and told me he was praying for the safe return of my nephew and pledged to me that “we will find those responsible and bring them to justice.”

No sooner did I hang up the phone then the president was at my desk and repeated those statements and shook my hand.

After 9/11 if anyone watched the response of our government with a critical eye, it was me. I know first hand what the president, vice president and the entire administration did to keep us safe from further attacks and to bring those responsible to justice.

I am so proud to have served during this time with patriots so focused in doing the right things for the right reasons.

We can second guess the actions taken by the Bush administration but one thing is certain, those who served acted with the best of intentions and were singularly focused on preventing further harm to our citizens.

The proof of their efforts is without question, that we have not experienced further devastating attacks at home and abroad since 9/11. And it is principally because of the actions taken by the Bush administration and Congress including, but not limited to, the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, the Patriot Act, FISA, the reorganization of our intelligence services, the creation of an intelligence czar, and yes the legal interrogation of our enemies.

I cannot say the same with regard to this administration. The fact that the president of the United States and his Attorney General would decide to try Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the largest single terrorist attack on our homeland — as a civilian criminal defendant instead of a enemy combatant was bad enough. But to decide to try him in New York was irresponsible and insensitive. It put New Yorkers at further risk of attack and gave our enemies the perfect propaganda tool.

I was hoping that the entire New York Congressional delegation would stand up for the New York City and fight the president and the Justice Department to prevent them from implementing this disastrous decision.

But instead of fighting for New York, we’ve now learned that the biggest proponents for bringing KSM to New York for a trial in a civilian criminal court was none other than Senators Schumer and Gillibrand and two New York City Representatives: Weiner and Nadler. For weeks these lawmakers had the audacity to make the case in favor of trying Mohammed as a civilian criminal defendant just blocks from Ground Zero.

Then the people where heard. A majority of New Yorkers and Americans overwhelmingly spoke out against those who were responsible for 9/11 to be tried in Manhattan. Now, all of a sudden the most vocal supporters for trying KSM and others in New York are desperately changing their positions.

Now, the White House and the Justice Department are scrabbling to get out of the mess they created. Why are these politicians seeking to reverse themselves? The answer could not be more obvious: the 2010 midterm elections in November.

In light of the reversals of fortunes for Democrats in New Jersey, Virginia and Massachusetts, they are playing politics with our security and their own political security.

The only New York federal lawmaker to stand up against the Democrats from New York, the president and the Justice Department was Republican Rep. Peter King, the ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee.

There has been no more vocal and selfless fighter for our national security than Congressman King and I challenge anyone to prove me wrong.

The fact that any lawmaker from New York would be a proponent of trying enemy combatants as mere criminal defendants, or worse, agree to try them in New York City, or worse yet, politicize 9/11 and the aftermath of those terrible attacks for their own political gain is shameful. On the basis of that alone they should be removed from office at the next available opportunity.
